Unveiling the new Canon Inspic

It took me several years, but I finally got my hands on the new photo printer from Canon. This is their renewed version of Inspic printer. I’m not sure what’s different between the old and new versions but I went for the newer one because I like the new body design better and I’ve learned from the past to never compromise when it comes to technology.

Simple packaging, surprisingly not japanesque.

To be honest, the reason why I decided to purchase it this time around was because of how hard it is to get tech items right now. I decided to not buy the newest Instax camera that came out a couple of months ago or the new Fujifilm mirrorless camera that I fell in love with because I thought I could just buy it any time I wanted. But I was proven wrong and it’s almost impossible to purchase them new because of material shortage that led to makers being unable to continue production.

The printer, photo paper, and charging cable.

There are three color variations, which is the same as the previous model: Blue, Pink, and White. I went with Blue because that was the only one available left on the EC website. The set comes with 10 photo papers and also a USB-C cable for charging. There’s an alternative photo paper that allows you to print in circle formats, but I decided to just go with the standard rectangle for now.

The printer requires you to download an app on your smartphone to be able to operate it via bluetooth. Set up was very easy and within three minutes, I was able to produce my first print.

Original picture vs printed picture.

I printed the picture of Tokyo Skytree that my friend took during our meet up a couple of months ago. I was a bit disappointed with the picture quality since it wasn’t as sharp and the colors aren’t as accurate as how it was depicted in my phone. It also couldn’t fit the whole size so I had to crop out the bottom part. But I guess this is what you can get from a simple photo printer. It’s sufficient to decorate your journal so it doesn’t look as deserted.

I saw some online comparisons between Canon and Kodak photo printers, and Kodak wins in the aspect of picture quality and color. It’s way sharper and the colors it recreates are closer to the original data. The only downside from Kodak is that their papers aren’t adhesive, while Canon’s is. However, if you don’t really care about the sticker aspect (and body design), I’d probably recommend Kodak for the better overall quality.

I’m so jealous! I been wanting an instant printer for the longest time just for journaling! I thought the Fuji Instax would have been the right choice, but it wasn’t. I feel like the pictures weren’t that great when I was able to play with one during a visit to WV. The quality of the photo was horrendous and you really need to be in well lit areas for the camera. I still want a DSLR. The Kodak instant printer, is the paper too thick for gluing with the expensive scrapbook glue? Or do you think you would need good quality washi tape?

I recommend normal photo printers if you want to stick them into your journal without it being super bulky because Instax films are insanely thick. In this case, if you go with Kodak, you’ll get a better picture quality. The paper thickness is like your standard photo paper (reviews say), so it doesn’t add that much bulk. If you don’t plan to take the pictures off your journal one day, then you can just glue it with any normal glue. Otherwise, use a washi tape (I’m not sure about the quality, I’ve been using Daiso ones and they do the job.)

If you don’t mind the thickness, or are planning to place the prints in a separate photo album then I say go for the newest Instax printer since they have the best picture quality amongst all the generations (not the Instax camera!). Printers allows you for more freedom to edit your image before hand and select the version you like best. The Instax mini evo I mentioned in my post is a 2 in 1 printer and camera. You can check YouTube videos for reviews and actual performance whether you’ll like it or not. It’s pricey though.

Interesting. Yeah, I played with the camera one and didn’t enjoy it at all. I’m hoping to get one for Christmas, but I’ll have to research is first before requesting it. I need to have a lot of pros to share with my husband before he even considers buying something like that lol
