It’s been a couple of weeks ever since the Fall 2020 anime have started airing. Here are a number of titles I’m currently following! (There are unexpectedly a lot …)
Jujutsu Kaisen
As featured in the header image, this story follows three students who are enrolled in a special school to exorcise ‘curses’. It’s like your typical yokai exorcist story but a bit more gruesome. The main character is Itadori Yuji, who apparently consumed an S-ranked cursed object (actually a gross-looking finger) that grants him the power of the legendary curse, Sukuna.
Majo no Tabitabi
Elaina is a witch prodigy that goes around travelling the world after being inspired by the travel records of a legendary Witch she read during her childhood. This may seem like your typical slice-of-life and full of fluff anime, but no. No. You’ll find out that it’s not exactly that once you hit the 3rd episode and I can only imagine it going darker. (Which is why I’m hooked to this series.)
I Stand Above A Million Lives
Japanese title goes: 100-man no Inochi no Ue ni Ore wa Tatteiru. Yes, long. And I have a tendency to get attracted to series with long-ass titles. Haha. It’s your typical isekai anime yet at the same time there’s something different to it. The characters get transferred back and forth the fantasy and reality world, getting quests from a mysterious entity that they need to complete if they don’t want to die. The animation’s not out of the world and the plot is generic, but there’s something about the storytelling that pulls me back into watching.
Kamisama ni Natta hi
English: The Day I Became A God. Narukami Yota meets a small girl who claims to be the God of Omniscience and that the world will end in 30 days. Yes, that plot alone is enough to pique my interest. So far, I’ve had tons of laughs from their gag scenes but I’m sure it’s not all about comedy when this series comes from the creators of Charlotte. I’ve listened to the voice actor’s radio and they said they were picked to voice the main characters after they got their crying scenes judged. I think this will be a hell of a ride. (But I might be wrong.)
Kami-tachi ni Hirowareta Otoko
If I’m not wrong, the English titles go along the line of: By The Grace of Gods. Which doesn’t directly translate from the Japanese title, but that’s nothing new, I guess. So far this series have been really relaxing and adorable. It’s another isekai anime but it features the MC being a slime-tamer (and basically someone who can do almost everything because he’s blessed by the Gods). The series itself has this soothing vibes yet at the same time exciting and explorative side to it.
Akudama Drive
Great visuals. Great music. Great plot. And it’s from the creators of Danganronpa. I don’t think there’s anything else I can say to describe how good this series is (so far). It’s something you have to watch and judge for yourself.
Maoujou de Oyasumi
I always return to this anime for the cutesy and laughs. It’s revolves around this human princess that got kidnapped by the Demon Lord. She loves sleeping. A lot. And she would go to great lengths to obtain equipments and items to improve her sleeping experience in the Demon Lord’s castle.
IWGP
Or Ikebukuro West Gate Park for long. I was attracted by the PV since it reminded me of Durarara!! which was also centered around the city of Ikebukuro and also dealt with gangs. So far, the story line is OK and developing bit by bit, but I can’t tell in which direction this anime is going to develop. I will keep watching for now…
Munou na Nana
This is a combination of My Hero Academia with a lot of murders and mysteries. Kids with supernatural powers are gathered in one deserted island to undergo training so that they can be ready to face the enemies of humanity. But no one has actually seen that said enemy and it seems like these students just disappear from the island one by one. The story follows the killer (who has no powers), which makes it really interesting.
Other reoccurring titles
- Haikyuu S4 2nd Cour (was delayed and only aired recently)
- Great Pretender S2 (all episodes available on Netflix)
Phew, that was quite a lot of titles to cover. But I’m really happy that there are a lot more entertainment this season that I would’ve expected. Some of these titles are available on Netflix so feel free to give it a watch if you’re interested in any!
