Settling in

Around one month has passed ever since I moved back to Tokyo and I think I’ll never get used to the amount of humans compressed into this tiny city.

I met my new team members for the first time in person. I can’t say that I’m fond of them, and the opposite is probably true for them as well. (There’s a lot of tea to spill for this, so I’ll save it for next time.)

The first few days were spent in reorganizing my belongings. Even though I’ve gotten rid of a lot of items before moving in, I still need to minimize more since the storage is extremely limited. My kitchen area literally had zero space for me to dry dishes, so I had to browse a lot of videos for a solution. I ended up purchasing a stainless steel tension shelf which also serves as a drying rack. It was around 100 bucks, quite pricey, but I’m satisfy with the quality.

I also decided it was time to renew my mattress. I’ve been using my old one ever since I was in university. It’s gotten so soft that it’s giving me back pains for the past few months. Increasing the size was my long life dream but I realized that I will regret that decision because my room is also abysmally small. In the end, I purchased a Koala mattress in the smallest size. I wanted to find a cheaper alternative, but other brands don’t have the extra service to take and throw away my old mattress. Since throwing away oversized items in Japan is a huge pain in the ass (no exaggerations), I opted for a brand that provides that service even though it’s a bit hefty. As for the mattress quality itself, only time will tell.

The next thing in my list would be to renew my washing machine, but perhaps that will have to wait for a bit.

I don’t think I could move into a smaller place. I admire you for being able to do that, and to minimize. I have been, for eight years, trying to minimize what we have. I’m not having any luck. lol Marie Kondo is no help because everything in this house sparks joy to someone living in this apartment.

I still dream of living in a 3 bedroom house. But my dreams are fading especially with Trump. Tariffs are awful. We’re already seeing a decline in quality goods that were being shipped here to the US. It sucks. American made stuff is mostly shit. And the recession is getting ridiculous. We’re struggling to just buy groceries.

And we can relate to the amount of people. They keep building homes, apartments, and condos. Traffic is so bad, and what makes things worse is the amount of horrible drivers plus everyone is always mad now. Road rage is on the high.

Anyways, I hope your mattress works out. Nothing feels great than a new one! We had ours for a long time before we replaced it. My husband felt bad that I was sleeping on top of broken springs.

It took some time until I was able to get used to the new mattress. I think my back pain has improved a bit!

The tariffs are impacting everyone and it sucks. Japan is also struggling to deal with it, and the fact that the tariffs could change in a blink of an eye is really troubling everyone.
