Treating myself because I deserve it

In one of my previous posts, I mentioned something about spending my money for stuff to treat myself. To be honest, ever since the pandemic started, I’ve tried so hard to save my money and not splurge on things. I avoided online shopping in general. But since my own birthday is coming up and I won’t be able to be with my parents who will usually buy me stuff, I decided that I will buy myself things that I want.

Subete wasurete shimau kara by Moegara

The firs thing I got was this hardcover Japanese novel. I actually thought that it would be a paperback since the buying option was written as softcover. But oh well. I don’t really have that many hardcover stuff and it looks pretty. Haha.

The title of the book is Subete wasurete shimau kara (lit. Because you will forget everything). I’ve never actually read any other works from the same author. I also didn’t know what the book was going to be about. I only bought it because I discovered that one of my favorite Japanese voice actors recommended it on Twitter. And I thought that the cover was unique and the title was catchy. That’s all. Lol.

Upon reading, I actually found myself entertained. There are a lot of anecdotes, some funny and some painfully relatable. Although it’s in Japanese and I suffer from not being able to read most of the kanji, I still think it’s a good practice for me to read and absorb new kanji (though my memory is that of a goldfish’s). The book has a lot of illustrations which makes it even more entertaining. I did not regret spending $15 for this. Maybe I will write more about this book when an opportunity presents itself.

One of Lush’s bestseller, Mask of Magnaminty

I haven’t shopped Lush products for quite some time because their minimum purchase to get free shipping was quite high (like $70?). This time I decided to give in and purchase something from them and paying that extra shipping fee because my body really needed some exfoliation. I’m not sure why this happens in summer and not winter, but I feel a lot of dead skin cells on my body and I just wanted to get rid of it. Hence, this purchase.

I’ve only used it once but I have to say it’s really hard to get used to the smell of Lush products (though I do love the exfoliation sensation this product gives). I’m not fond of this one’s smell, yet. But maybe I’ll get to love it just like how I love Ocean Salt.

Small Wallet by abrAsus

And finally, the smallest (yet the most expensive) item in this post. It’s a Small Wallet (yes, the product name is literally that) that has entered my radars ever since last year. It costs a whooping $150, so expensive that I hesitated multiple times over buying it. But when it arrived and my hands came in contact with the actual product, I understood why.

The level of craftsmanship required to make this product is insane. I don’t understand how they’re able to trim leather so thin yet make it sturdy enough for a wallet at the same time. (The leather smell is godly, y’all). And yes, since it’s a leather wallet, it’s not for vegans. But that aside, I wanted to emphasize the design and functionality of this wallet.

Although small, it can fit the basic essentials of bills, coins, and cards (up to 5). It’s certainly targeted towards someone who have or are aiming to build a minimalist lifestyle. I personally don’t carry a lot of stuff in my wallet, yet my old one was so big that I had to always bring a bag just to store my wallet somewhere because the pocket of my pants were too small. So changing my wallet to this one has made my life a lot more easier.

You need some time to get used to using this wallet since the way it opens up and how things are stored are slightly different from other common wallets. But once you get the hang of it, it’s just so easy and effortless.

As a bonus, I’ve made a random video featuring the Lush product and the wallet (in case you’re curious). Enjoy!

It never hurts to buy yourself treats! Especially when it comes to your birthday! And you can always get what you wanted without wondering if the person is going to get you that gift or not. For example, my husband asked for something in particular from his parents, and they rejected it because they found it childish and dumb. I ordered it for him. We both love our plushies that reflect our personalities and what we love. Anyways, I’m glad you’re enjoying the book! I really wish that I new another language. (I know very little French/Spanish/ASL but not enough to do anything with it.) Enjoy your gifts!
