Picking up more otome games and a new novel

Recently I’ve just been playing more otome games instead of reading my work-related textbooks. I told myself I’d finish at least one by the end of this month but I couldn’t get myself to continue reading pages of Japanese text.

In case you didn’t know, otome is a genre of game that usually refers to dating sims games. Though these days the term is also used for visual novels which are story heavy with only a hint of dating in the end. Recently, I’ve been playing a lot of these which focuses a lot more in the story and it has robbed me of my sleeping time because the scenario is just so interesting. (I’m not sure why but I tend to gravitate towards game with a lot of dark aspects with all the violence and mystery.)

I’ve just purchased a new game titled Taisho x Alice for Switch. This game is also available in Steam (localized too!). I’ve only played for a few hours but I’m already loving the characters. There are a lot of gag scenes which got me rolling but a lot of people said that there’s a darker side to the story which got me really excited! I’m not sure how long it’ll take me to complete this since I bought the Japanese version. I could’ve went with the English version on Steam but I couldn’t help but purchase the original because I want the content to stay as original possible. Translated contents tend to have certain lines and words lost in translation. Though this means my brain would suffer more trying to process kanji. Oh well. (A part of me also wants to avoid reading cheesy lines in English. They sound so much better in Japanese. Lol.)

Since these games are really expensive, I’m hoping that I would be able to take a break after completing it by picking up a new novel. I placed a pre-order for The Midnight Library a couple of days ago. The kindle and hardcover version of this book is already available but they’re more expensive than the normal paperback. I’m not sure why the paperback is not released yet, but I think the timing is perfect since I’ll probably finish Taisho x Alice by the time it gets released. I’m also thinking of picking up Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine if feel like reading more. (Really though, I should be reading my textbooks instead of these.)

In case anyone’s interested, here is the summary for The Midnight Library:

Between life and death there is a library.

When Nora Seed finds herself in the Midnight Library, she has a chance to make things right. Up until now, her life has been full of misery and regret. She feels she has let everyone down, including herself. But things are about to change.

The books in the Midnight Library enable Nora to live as if she had done things differently. With the help of an old friend, she can now undo every one of her regrets as she tries to work out her perfect life. But things aren’t always what she imagined they’d be, and soon her choices place the library and herself in extreme danger.

Before time runs out, she must answer the ultimate question: what is the best way to live?

Surely these entertainments will keep me accompany until the end of this month. Next month’s going to get really busy because I’m going to have to prepare for moving out and all the stuff. I’m not looking forward to it at all. Sigh.

  1. I’m glad your finding things to entertain yourself! It’s nice being able to do this right now. I’m sure work will eat up most of your time when you do start, so it’s best to do all these things now!
