Surprisingly, the bakery called me two days ago and told me that they want me working starting from the next day (technically yesterday by the time I wrote this post). I didn’t know what made them hire me, maybe because my house is 5 minutes away and I practically have nothing to do other than waiting for April to come.
Work was taxing. As someone who lacks exercise and experience doing heavy workloads, bakery work really took a toll on my body. I experienced back pains and sore muscles after the first day. The hardest part was probably to memorize all the different type of breads and products they have. Today I even messed up the type of breads I was supposed to defrost. I felt really bad that I caused such a trouble to everyone. It must be really annoying and tiring to train someone haha.
I didn’t really talk with people in the bakery since I introduced myself as someone who could only speak daily conversational level Japanese because I don’t want them to start blabbering a lot of advanced Japanese words and expecting me to understand everything they said (note: I actually could understand 90% of what they’re saying most of the time). Well, if they had dug deeper or asked the person who interviewed me, they would know otherwise since there’s no way a person with daily conversational level could land a job in a proper company. Lol.
That aside, I’ve been scheduled to work 6 hours a day from 9 am to 3 pm. The days are mostly not decided since they have multiple workers and rotating shifts. According to the law, I could only work a maximum of 8 hours a day and 28 hours a week since I’m a foreigner. 6 hours a day is already pretty tiring to me, though. Maybe it’s because I’m not used to it yet.
Also, I don’t know if it’s because of the bakery, but I’ve been trying to bake a lot of cakes these days using the premix from Muji. They came out with new series of premixes and I decided to try out their brownies and gateau chocolate. Mom would always bake brownies back at home and I kinda missed it, which is why I gave it a try. I gave a couple to my friend and he said it’s delicious (which I’m kinda happy about). I also made the gateau chocolate yesterday but have yet to eat it. Maybe tomorrow …
I have some kind of mini tour tomorrow around the town, so I won’t go to work. Do expect some pictures from the tour, though!
